I was introduced to Bikram Yoga by my trainer at Karp Fitness who was helping me through a few overuse sports injuries (knee, shoulder and elbow). She recommended that I try Bikram Yoga and told me that it would be a great balance for my training and I thought I would enjoy the challenge. The next day I found myself in a hot sweaty room with Michael as the instructor. It was much harder than I had thought but I loved it and knew it was exactly what my body needed. I signed up for a year membership that first intro week knowing I would stick with it.
After a month my back was not sore anymore and any back pain or spasms were eliminated. My shoulder started to feel better and an old knee injury (ITB, Patella Femoral pain syndrome) was not aggravating me as much as in the past. I felt more energetic through out the day, craved less fried foods, and became more aware of what I was putting into my body.
Now, with 3 years and over 700 classes behind me I am injury free. My knee injury does not bother me anymore and my shoulder pain does not exist. I am now trail running again after 13 years of not being able to run.
Today yoga is a part of my daily life, it has given me a better body and a calmer mind, and I look forward to it every day. I have introduced it to my mother and many friends who now enjoy the great benefits of Bikram Yoga.
Thanks to all the wonderful instructors who have helped me along the way.
