Sophia transformed from a sedentary individual of 19 years to an extremely active athlete during her Bachelors in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, at UBC. She has participated in several triathalons, half-marathons and fell in love with rock-climbing.  Her passion for sports have led to several injuries and after a major leg injury while traveling through New Zealand, which left her unable to walk for 3 weeks, she realized it was time to rest and to allow her body to heal. While rock-climbing in Thailand, Sophia took a Hatha yoga class and after wards she felt grounded for the first time. Upon returning from her travels Sophia’s parents introduced her to Bikram Yoga and she immediately fell in love with the health benefits and the ability to relax from her practice.

In 2006 Sophia was training and fundraising for a full-marathon in support of the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society when a leg injury concerned her physiotherapist and she was advised to withdraw from the race. She was determined to finish the race and under the guidance from her Bikram teachers and her physiotherapist, she began practicing Bikram Yoga 5 days a week for five weeks until her race. Sophia completed the half-marathon close to her personal best. At the time Sophia was contemplating pursing physiotherapy but it was after this experience that Sophia decided to pursue becoming a Bikram Yoga instructor in order to guide others to improve their own strength and flexibility.  She believes the postures allow the body to maintain and improve its mobility and vitality so that we can play and enjoy life.

Sophia completed the Bikram Training Fall 2006.  She admits she has learned as much from her students as she has from her own practice. It has been a gift to teach.  Her background in Kinesiology and history of injuries have allowed Sophia to understand the bio mechanics of the postures and to relate to her students working through their injuries.

Sophia believes that yoga can be used as a tool to realign ourselves with who we truly are and when combined with focus and balance we are capable of pursuing anything in life.  In the past few years Sophia has rediscovered the artist within herself.   She uses her yoga practice to connect and to express her creativity through her photographic and musical pursuits.  When Sophia isn't teaching or practicing, she is exploring the world through adventures or laughing with her friends.
